Job description

As a medior/senior controller, you play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial performances of RSM's departments and the implementation of their business plans

You will act as the financial sparring partner for the department managers and project leaders within the organisation, lead the planning and forecast processes, and analyse the financial and operational results and underlying trends.

RSM's department of Business & Project Control provides professional services to all RSM employees. We're a partner in the development and realisation of RSM's strategy and are responsible for enhancing the manageability of the organisation. We do this by controlling the use of resources (finances, capacity, purchasing) for education, research, support, and projects associated with RSM's objectives.

Your main tasks
  • Advising on and implementing the school's planning and control cycle
  • Drafting the budget in collaboration with RSM heads of department and project managers
  • Preparing periodic reports by collecting and presenting financial information, and preparing a comparative analysis for budgets (budget monitoring) for departments and projects
  • Drafting the forecast based on actual figures and identified risks
  • Drawing up business cases for new research centres or master programmes
  • Advising, informing, and supervising project managers on all internal and external regulations relating to external research funding
  • Assisting in an accurate, complete, and timely closing of the accounts for each period
  • Assisting in internal and external audit preparations

Requirements

  • University degree, preferably a master, in the field of accounting and control, business economics, or comparable
  • A minimum of three to five years' experience in a controlling department
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial processes, such as budgeting and financial closure (required)
  • Experience with financial rules and regulations for subsidy projects (a plus)

Your required competencies
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Experience with SAP is highly desirable
  • A strong affinity with numbers and expertise in Excel
  • Experience with VBA is a plus
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • High level of analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good command of both spoken and written Dutch and English (C1 level)
  • Ability to work in teams and liaise with colleagues at all levels within the organisation, such as department chairs and treasurers
  • Results-oriented with the ability to prioritise under tight deadlines

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The position is for 0,8 to 1,0 FTE with the possibility of blended working for a good work-life balance.

Starting date preferably as soon as possible, at short notice. We offer a full-time contract, initially for one year.

Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of €2,790 up to a maximum of €5,127 gross per month (scale 10 or 11 CAO NU), based on a full-time contract of 38 hours.

Department

Business and Project Control (BPC) provides professional service to all RSM employees regarding financial topics such as external hiring, declaration of expenses, procurement guidelines, grant budgeting advice and much more. The goal of the department is to be the economic conscience of the faculty. BPC is responsible for delivering management information to enable decision making, for monitoring of strategy implementation, and for reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The department lends advice and reporting to management (administrative and academic department heads, treasurers, members of the Executive Board) for leading and managing the organisation. It follows a planning and control cycle to manage these tasks.
