As of 1 Augustus 2021, the Netherlands Institute in Morocco (NIMAR) in Rabat is looking for a Teacher in the field of the social sciences and a communication officer

Job description

The teacher develops and organises educational activities in the field of the social sciences under the responsibility of the education coordinator, in particular for the minor Culture & Society in Morocco. Additionally, he or she provides lectures for study trips and other visits.

The teacher will also perform communication tasks. In collaboration with the management team, he or she develops and implements communication strategies for NIMAR. Technical and practical support in the fulfilment of these duties is possible.

He or she contributes to other NIMAR activities in the field of the social sciences, in particular when it concerns research and impact activities, and will provide organisational support to the management team.

The main tasks of the teacher in social sciences are:

  • Prepare, organise and supervise (some of) the courses of NIMAR’s education programmes
    • Methods of Qualitative Research: provide lectures, evaluate students’ assignments;
    • Research Design: provide lectures, supervise students' research projects, evaluate assignments;
    • Case Studies on Moroccan Culture and Society: introduce guest speakers of the programme’s lecture series, moderate discussions, analyse literature, correct student’s theme reports, (co-)supervise excursions;

The precise distribution of the workload will be determined based on the profile of the social sciences teacher and the education coordinator.

  • Supervise research projects BA students (in particular by bringing them into contact with relevant organisations and partners) and, in some cases, interns;
  • Build and maintain a network of relevant institutions and individuals in Morocco;
  • Receive groups (students and professionals): provide lectures on Moroccan culture and society.

The main tasks with regard to communication are:

  • Develop and implement NIMAR’s communication strategy (update the website, create newsletters, manage social media, create and collect promotional visual material);
  • Write news articles and promotional or informative texts about education, research and impact activities at NIMAR (including supervision of students in creating material for the website);
  • Create promotional material for education and public activities (flyers, videos, posters,…).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences or a relevant field in the humanities;
  • Excellent teaching skills (experience in university teaching is an asset);
  • Research experience and a relevant network in Morocco;
  • Academic knowledge of Morocco, insight into relevant social developments;
  • Sensibility to the cultural and political context and good networking skills;
  • Excellent (intercultural) verbal and written communication skills, both in English and French (knowledge of Arabic and/or Dutch is an asset);
  • Experience with communication technology (CMS, graphic design, image editing, video editing) is an asset.

Conditions of employment

A job position for the period of one year. After a positive evaluation of your work and work attitude, a renewal is possible. Depending on the educational background and work experience of the applicant, a monthly salary amounts to a minimum of 27,569 MAD and a maximum of 41,353 MAD gross, based on a full working week of 37 hours with a full-time position (scale 8 Rrlok).

This job is not an expat function, it is a local position based on the salary and working conditions of the Dutch Embassy in Morocco.
