Make in impact on the development of next generation communication systems and quantum computers by joinin the projects that will develop the key know-how to characterize these technologies

Job description

Qauntum technologies, such as quantum sensors and quantum computing, will revolutionize scientific  nd technological developments in the coming years. However, most quantum devices operates at cryogenic temperature and require interfacing with standard electronics operating both at room temperature and at cryogenic tmeperature. The main target of this PhD project is the development of novel metrology techniques and methods to enable measurement, characterization and design of the cryogenic infrastructure required for future qauntum technologies.

The candidate will join the Electronic Circuits and Architectures and the QCAT (Quantum Circuits Architectures and Technology) groups and work on the develoment of characterizaiton techniques for small and large signal and noise measurement in the mm-wave range (up to 325GHz) and cryogenic environemnt (down to 4K). The project will also run in strict collaboration with QuTech, the world-leading institute founded in 2014 as a collaboration between Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), and focusing on quantum computing and quanutm internet.

The project controbution will be a part of two European consortium in the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR) framework

Department

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three disciplines - electrical engineering, mathematics and computer science. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make future-proof. We are also working on a world in which humans and computers reinforce each other. We are mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. There is plenty of room here for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1,100 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
