Erasmus Research Services (ERS) and the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) are offering a position for a Research Funding Officer.

Job description

As Research Funding Officer you are responsible for early identification and creation of opportunities for national and European funding for researchers working in Social Sciences and Humanities. You will be embedded for 50% of your working hours supporting the researchers at the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University (ESHPM) and for 50% working on large collaborative grants at Erasmus Research Services (ERS).

For ERS:
Your primary responsibility at ERS is to provide hands-on support to researchers working on large collaborative grants with a particular emphasis on EIT grants. You keep a close eye on current and upcoming funding calls for opportunities and then act upon them by involving the right researchers and coordinating the proposal process. You provide support by matching funding opportunities to research profiles, growing and managing consortia, structuring the collaborative process of concept development and contribute to the proposal through edits and limited textual contributions.
 

For ESHPM:
Your primary responsibility at ESHPM is to scout for research- or project ideas and to identify funding opportunities, to provide guidance to researchers in the application process for these grants, to set up a support structure for researchers and to help them write excellent proposals. You act as first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

Main responsibilities:

  • Scout for research project ideas within ESHPM;
  • Identify and create opportunities for personal and collaborative research grants at NWO and other national research funders as well as at European level (Horizon Europe);
  • Support researchers to apply for research grants, and coach and help them throughout the application process;
  • Act as first point of contact for ESHPM researchers that want to apply for a grant and organize internal alignment with relevant processes such as financial and project control;
  • Lead one or two collaborative proposal developments at any one time.
  • Represent ESHPM in EUR-wide research grant meetings.

Requirements

Required experience, skills and competencies:

  • Completed education on an academic level. A doctorate in social and/or health sciences will be viewed favourably.
  • Experience in acquiring grants:
    • Several years of relevant work experience in supporting and advising researchers in the application of research grants;
    • Knowledge of the procedures relating to grants from funding schemes;
    • knowledge of EIT and/or Horizon programmes is valued.
  • Open personality and ability to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Culturally sensitive, a good listener, customer/service orientated;
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude; excellent organization skills;
  • Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under peak performance;
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English (CEFR level C1) and of Dutch (CEFR level B2).

You will become a member of the department Erasmus Research Services, a team of 22 people and provide support for 50% of your time to the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM). You will report to the Head of Research Grants at ERS and the Head of Educational and Research Policy at ESHPM.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

The employment contract is entered into for a period of one year after which extension is possible dependent on performance.  Your remuneration is based on the position, and within that your specific knowledge and experience, and will be calculated on the basis of full-time salary ranging between € 3.746,- and € 5.127,- gross per month (salary scale 11, CAO NU).

In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Erasmus School of Health Policy Management (ESHPM)

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is leading in the Netherlands and Europe with its educational and research activities, focused on policy and management topics in healthcare. ESHPM provides a bachelor's degree, five master's degree programmes, a pre-master programme and postgraduate education.

At ESHPM, research and education are closely linked. Knowledge and experience from various scientific disciplines such as economics, law, social-medical sciences, organizational studies and public administration are brought together and applied in health care.
