Job description

The university lecturer / assistant professor will mainly be teaching HTA, HE and epidemiology in several courses of the bachelor and master programmes mentioned above. Teaching may include giving lectures, leading workgroup sessions, developing and grading exams, and the supervision of bachelor and master theses. Depending on the remaining time and research interests of the candidate, (s)he can also actively participate in the execution of HTA research projects.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with training in the field of health sciences, healthcare policy and management, epidemiology, health technology assessment, (health) economics, biomedical sciences, or similar, who:

  • Has completed or almost completed a PhD thesis related to HTA research
  • Enjoys the interaction with students
  • Has completed the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO)
  • Has prior experience in teaching HTA
  • Has strong communication and presentation skills
  • Speaks English and Dutch fluently
  • Is independent, has strong organizational skills and keeps deadlines.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

This position is funded by budget from the National Program on Education (NPO), which offers universities temporary additional budget to strengthen post-corona teaching. We offer a 0.8 Fte position as scientific lecturer at EUR, starting October 1, 2021.

We offer an appointment for a period of 1 year potentially followed by a second temporary contract if NPO funding is continued.

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (cao NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale 11 or 12  with a minimum of € 3.746,-  and a maximum of € 5.826,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis.

In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision, and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal education budget, work-life balance coaches and more. Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM)

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam and is responsible for a bachelor and four master programs on policy and management in healthcare, which serve 1000 students. In addition, research is being done on three major research themes: ‘competition and regulation in healthcare’, ‘quality and efficiency in healthcare’ and ‘healthcare management’. ESHPM has about 175 employees. The position offered is within the department of Socio-Medical Sciences. The department of Socio-Medical Sciences within ESHPM addresses socio-medical themes such as patients’ experiences, quality of care, and the accessibility and use of (health) care services. Other topics addressed include the consequences of care provision and care reform for health and well-being of vulnerable groups (including vulnerable elderly, older migrants, youth with chronic conditions, people with an intellectual disability, the chronically ill, and low socioeconomic status groups).

The HTA department
The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) department within ESHPM, and its linked contract research institute IMTA, are distinguished by and internationally renowned for independent and excellent research in HTA, health economics and health outcomes research. The HTA department contributes to important and influential methodological innovations in these areas. It is dedicated to stimulating the use of cost-effectiveness information in healthcare decision making. The department is responsible for teaching HTA in several courses of the bachelor Health Policy and Management, the master programmes Health Economics Policy and Law (HEPL), and Health Economics (HE), and the European master programme Health Economics and Management (EUHEM).
