The Islet research group of the LUMC is looking for a research technician who is directly involved in translational research towards the generation of insulin-producing cells from human pluripotent stem cells. Does this sound like you? Don’t hesitate and apply!

Job description

The LUMC is one of the few centers in Europe that isolates insulin-producing Islets of Langerhans from donor pancreas. This is done for islet transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes and for basic and translational research. Due to a lack of organ donors, we are also investigating new sources of insulin-producing cells. You are part of the research group and you are directly involved in translational research on human pluripotent stem cells as alternative source of insulin-producing cells. Cell culture is an important part of the function. Other techniques are flowcytometry, qPCR, western blot, (immuno) histochemistry, and microscopy (confocal, live cell imaging). On a regular basis you will contribute to the isolation of islets within a GMP environment for transplantation.

·       You join the Islet research group and are directly involved in research using human pluripotent stem cells

·       You will contribute to the isolation of pancreatic islets within a GMP environment

·       You have at least a completed HLO education in cell biology or biomedical research

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with at least a completed HLO education in cell biology and/or biomedical research. You are interested in basic and translational research. You have good organizational skills and you are willing to take responsibility in helping set up and maintain experiments. Experience with cell culture is essential, preferably with human pluripotent stem cells (hESC, hiPSC). Experience with working in a GMP environment is a plus. You also have experience with flow cytometry, RNA / qPCR, western blot, (immuno) histochemistry, and (confocal) microscopy. You are accurate, anticipatory, and collegial. Because much of the communication in the laboratory is in English, it is important that you have an adequate command of the English language. In this position you will have to deal with irregular working hours. It is important that you are flexible and can work well together.

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

You will be employed on the basis of 36 hours per week. Appointment is for 1 year. Your salary is based on your education and experience and is a maximum of € 3,280 gross per month for a full time position.
