Job description

The European Centre on Privacy and Cybersecurity (ECPC), established under the Law Faculty of Maastricht University, offers executive education programmes closely intertwined with the centre’s research on legal issues related to personal data protection and cybersecurity. From September 2021 on ECPC offers a new Advanced Master in Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Management. This programme offers an ambitions curriculum for professionals that bridges the intersection between law, technology, ethics, governance and management; it is against this background that ECPC is expanding.

To further complement our team, we are looking for an enthusiastic new colleague with knowledge of data protection and privacy law, who will assist the team of teachers and course coordinators in implementing the advanced master programme.

As an ECPC teaching assistant, you will:

  • Assist the team of teachers and course coordinators in preparing the master courses
  • Prepare, collect and categorize online learning materials, background reading, knowledge clips
  • Prepare the canvas learning environment for students and teachers
  • Provide research assistance
  • Assist in preparing presentations, articles, case studies etc.
  • Coordinate smooth handling of students’ assignments and papers
  • Serve as a daily contact point for students of the Advanced Master programme

The position offers considerable space for personal initiative and fulfilment. The working language is English.

The preferred starting date is as soon as possible.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in law (LL.M. or equivalent) in the field of data protection, privacy law or data security. Candidates from related and relevant disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
  • The candidate demonstrates knowledge of data privacy and has an interest in the interplay between data protection/privacy and technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and fundamental rights.
  • Experience with working in a Problem Based Learning environment is considered an advantage.
  • Excellent writing, organisational and problem solving skills.
  • Strong client service orientation, good communication skills, including the ability to liaise with people across the business.
  • Excellent command of the English language (spoken & written).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Working hours: maximum of 38 hours per week

The salary depends on qualifications and experience. The salary will be set between minimum gross monthly salary € 2,329 (of salary scale 7) and maximum gross monthly salary of € 3,548 (of salary scale 8), based on a full-time employment, of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities.
