You are invited to apply for a 1-year postdoctoral position – combining research and education with infrastructure development in ‘digital studies’

Job description

Research project
This position will support various education and research ambitions within FASoS relating to the support for research using digital resources, methods, and formats. These have been growing in recent years, due to the new BA Digital Society (first cohort of students joined in 2019), the MA Digital Cultures, and several large research projects, including Terra Mosana (funded by Interreg, 2018-22) and PURE3D (PDI SSH, 2021-24). Maastricht University is also a signatory of the Netwerk Digitaal Erfgoed. Several new appointments have been made to support the further growth of the BA Digital Society and to work on these research projects. These colleagues need technical support that goes beyond what is typically provided to academic staff in FASoS. For all of these reasons, we are currently exploring the establishment of a provisionally named Digital Studies Lab, to be based in FASoS, but as part of a university-wide network of facilities supporting digital research, broadly defined.

Job description
Depending on your background, the position will be based at FASoS, in one of the academic departments but also working closely with the ICT cluster. The research profile is most likely to match either the Arts, Media & Culture programme or the Science and Technology Studies programme.

Tasks

  • 50% - further development of Digital Studies Lab, to support innovative educational and research activities
  • 25% - preparation of publications and research applications; participation in monthly training programme offered to PhDs and postdocs in the national Digital Society programme
  • 25% - teaching and thesis supervision, likely in the MA Digital Cultures, BA Digital Society, and perhaps also methods courses in other programmes.

This position combines project management with academic research and teaching, not uncommon in emerging fields such as Digital Humanities.
