Will you be joining our expertise group in Economic, Social and Demographic History? We are looking for a colleague who can teach Economic History covering Early Modern and Contemporary History, whose research interests complement  our section's expertise and include at least one of the following topics: economic history in relation to life course and the family; financial aspects of slavery and slave trade; the history of inequality from a micro-perspective; digital humanities. 

As an assistant professor you will be part of the Department of History, Art History and Classics and you will participate in its educational programme at all levels, both in Dutch and English. You will teach in Dutch- and English-taught BA programmes in History, providing specialised courses in the field of Economic, Social and Demographic History, as well as general courses. At the Master's level, you will participate in the Dutch-taught specialisation in Geschiedenis & Actualiteit as well as in the Research Master's programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies. You will supervise students writing their papers and theses, participate in educational support activities such as tutoring, and actively contribute to the further development of the curriculum.

As a researcher, your research will be embedded in the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). You are a productive and active researcher who develops research projects, writes, publishes and collaborates on themes that contribute to the central questions of the expertise group, the Radboud Group for Historical Demography and Family History, and RICH in general. You will seek external funding and will engage in public engagement activities. You will participate in working groups, committees and/or project groups within the department, programme or faculty. 

• You hold a PhD in the field of Economic History.
• You have research ambitions, as evidenced by publications, funding applications and initiatives.
• You are able to establish innovative connections with other staff members of the expertise group in both research and teaching.
• You have a national and international network of academic contacts.
• You have demonstrable experience in reaching out to a non-academic audience.
• You have undergraduate and graduate teaching experience and have contributed to curriculum development.
• You have experience with supervising undergraduate and graduate theses.
• You have a formal basic qualification in academic teaching (UTQ, for example the Dutch BKO), or are committed and able to obtain one within two years.
• Dutch is your native language, or you are committed to master the Dutch language at C2 level within four years.
• You hold a Cambridge Certificate (CPE2 level) in English or equivalent, or you are committed to obtain this certificate in the foreseeable future.
• You have the following competences: conceptual capacity, environmental orientation, presentational skills, result orientation, and resourcefulness.

Fixed-term contract: 18 months.

• Employment for 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,807 and a maximum of €5,922 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11 or 12). 
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a temporary employment for 1,5 years with perspective on a permanent position after positive evaluation.
• You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services. Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment  and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
• Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 29 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
