Job description

(Tenure track with focus on education: 60% teaching, 20% research, 20% organization and management) 

The Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management invites candidates with a strong interest in innovative education for a Tenure Track position as an assistant professor of Methods for Policy Analysis.

You will focus on one or more of the following: 
• problem structuring methods to enhance understanding of complex problem situations, e.g. cognitive mapping, causal modelling, actor network models
• modelling, simulation and/or game based methods to support decision making, e.g. System Dynamics modelling, Agent-based Modelling, gaming simulation

You will be part of the Policy Analysis group in the Department of Multi-Actor Systems at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. Policy analysis at TPM has its roots in systems analysis of socio-technical-environmental systems. The areas of application are water and delta systems, transport systems, urban systems, and health systems.

You will contribute to the group's teaching of courses and supervising students working on group and individual projects at the BSc level (e.g. policy analysis of multi-actor systems, bachelor capstone project) as well as at the MSc level. Although the main focus of this position will be on education, we do expect the candidate to contribute to the group's research and to conduct education related research.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has: 
• A PhD degree and a background in Policy Analysis/Systems Analysis/Operations Research/Decision science/Systems Modelling/Gaming simulation or a related field
• Affinity with the public domain, and ability and interest to cross disciplinary boundaries
• Enthusiasm for and relevant experience in academic teaching and supervision 
• Experience in at least one of the research areas of the group
• Proficiency in Dutch or willingness to acquire it 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. In the fifth year we’ll decide if you will be offered a permanent faculty position, based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment. We expect that you have the potential to grow towards an Associate Professor and/or Full Professor role in the future.

Inspiring, excellent education is our central aim. We expect you to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) within three years if you have less than five years of teaching experience. This is provided by the TU Delft UTQ programme.
TU Delft sets high standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. The TU Delft offers training to improve English competency. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer courses to learn the Dutch language within three years.
