University of Twente's Technical Medical Centre is widely recognized for its excellence in development of new biomedical solutions and advanced biofabrication technologies. Here, various Departments work on pressing topics with high societal and biomedical relevance. Within the Department of Developmental BioEngineering, a fully funded vacancy exists for a postdoctoral researcher, available immediately, for the duration of 1 year.

In this project, you will develop a novel organ on chip model of the human joint to understand the gendered nature of osteoarthritis (OA). This state-of-the-art micro-technological approach will be combined with advanced proteomics and metabolomics, to deepen the understanding of the onset and progression of OA, with the ultimate goal to allow for more effective development and screening of OA drugs.


University of Twente (UT)


  • Hold a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent;
  • Background in organs-on-chips, microfluidics, imaging and molecular cell biology;
  • Experience in cell culture, tissue engineering and microfabrication technologies;
  • Experience in proteomic and metabolomic analysis will be considered as a benefit;
  • Excellent analytical skills and an innate ability for solution oriented problem solving;
  • Team player with great communication skills;
  • Demonstrable leadership potential and experience in the supervision of students;
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Conditions of employment

You will be appointed on a fulltime position for one year, within a very stimulating scientific environment. The university offers a dynamic ecosystem with enthusiastic colleagues.
  • Gross salary: ranging from € 3.408 to € 4.474 per month, depending on your background, relevant experience and qualifications, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities.

  • A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
