Job description

We are looking for a talented individual to join the research support and development department of Maastricht University library. The successful applicant will contribute to diverse research support projects in close collaboration with researchers and UM support staff to develop and implement diverse data workflows and processes using internally generated research data in combination with external databases.

Position Description

  • Develop and implement lightweight ETL processes to wrangle data into more useful forms.
  • Develop effective solutions for data integration, data mining, data curation, machine learning and data visualization.
  • Understanding functional requirements and translation of these requirements into code for working pieces of software, e.g. plugins for existing systems or stand-alone websites.
  • Have the capacity to thrive in our fast-paced environment and take ownership of your work.
  • Challenge ideas and methods while working together with talented, highly skilled team members.

Requirements

  • A BSc or MSc degree in science (computer science/data science), engineering, information technology, mathematics or other relevant field.
  • Experience or affinity with programming languages like PowerShell, .net Core/C#, PHP, SQL and SPARQL.
  • Experience or affinity with techniques of structuring data like XML, XLST, JSON and RDF.
  • Experience with program API’s or web services, using REST, SOAP.
  • Understanding of (technical) metadata and the semantic web.
  • Proven creative approaches to analysis and data exploration.
  • Ability to share knowledge and present results in an understandable way to diverse groups.
  • Willing to acquire new skills and come up with new approaches, be pro-active, motivated and result driven.
  • Proven experience in collaborative multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency of the Dutch and English language.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one year with the possibility of extension.

The salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and work experience scale 9 or 10 (€ 2.968,- and a maximum of € 4.474,- per month), based on a full-time appointment (38 hours/week). On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end of the year allowance.

38 hours per week (less is possible).
