Job description

Are you an aspiring researcher, looking to start your academic career off well-prepared? As a junior lecturer / PhD candidate, you will not only be contributing fundamental scientific knowledge in the domain of psychology, but also teach this knowledge to students in the psychology programme. This way, you will be able to obtain both your PhD and university teaching qualification in one position.

The School of Psychology and the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) at Radboud University are looking for a Junior Lecturer/PhD candidate in Social Psychology. As a Junior Lecturer/PhD candidate you will have both teaching duties (40%) and research duties (60%) for a 6-year period. The position will ultimately lead to a PhD degree and university teaching qualification (BKO). We have similar openings for a Junior Lecturer/PhD Candidate in Work and Organisational Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Clinical Psychology (please see the relevant job advertisements on our website).

Your teaching will involve various activities in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Psychology, mostly related to 1) tutoring research-related work groups in the first year of the Bachelor programme in Psychology, 2) supervision of third-year students in their Bachelor’s degree research projects, which will align with your own PhD research, 3) supervision of Master’s theses in the Master’s specialisation in Behaviour Change (BC). Over the course of six years, you will gain a diverse range of teaching skills, including lecturing. This will enable you to obtain your university teaching qualification under the guidance of a mentor.

This Junior Lecturer/PhD Candidate position will be part of BSI’s social psychology research programme Behaviour Change and Well-being (BCW). You will be enrolled in the BSI Graduate School, which will support your research and research training. Because of the strong relation between research and teaching in this position, your research topic should aim to inspire and trigger the interests of students so that you will be able to supervise their Bachelor’s and/or Master’s thesis projects on your topic.

Your research will contribute to the BCW mission to examine and understand basic social-psychological regulation processes that underlie behaviour change and well-being (see the BCW website for more detailed information). More specifically, the current research project will focus on the role of hedonic goal pursuit in the context of close (or romantic) relationships. Possible research questions could be how savouring positive relationship experiences may promote individual and relationship well-being, and what the role of regulatory processes (e.g. mindfulness, self-control) is in these experiences. However, these questions are still open, and at the start of the project you will need to further specify the research questions and research plan in collaboration with the supervision team, consisting of Dr. Daniela Becker and Prof. Johan Karremans.
