Job description

Would you like to make an impact with your research and inspire students? Work at a true campus university with a pleasant atmosphere? Then you will find this role an excellent fit.

We are looking for enthusiastic Assistant Professor to expand our new group of Computational Design of Structural Materials. We are looking for an individual who will contribute to maintaining our welcoming, inclusive, diverse and inspiring environment for our students, and whose expertise in Multiscale Analysis of Polymer Composites will complement and enhance our existing research capabilities.

About the job

As an assistant professor a successful applicant will work in the new group of Computational Design of Structural Materials within the Department of Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces and Systems (MS3) of the Faculty of Engineering Technology. You should have the ambition of establishing independent research in the field of Multiscale Analysis of Polymer Composites, working in close collaboration with colleagues from various research groups, external academics and industrial partners

In this position you will focus on multi-scale numerical modelling of the microstructure-property relations in polymer composite materials, including the interphases and interfaces between the constituents contained. Affinity with experimental characterization in this field is considered a plus. With your expertise, you will further strengthen our position in the optimization of processing and performance of elastomers, polymers and polymer composites.

Your teaching duties will contribute to the educational programs in Mechanical Engineering on bachelor, master and doctorate level. You will also supervise students in their graduation assignments, and you will contribute towards the supervision of the PhD candidate(s). In time, there are opportunities to develop your career further and grow into the role of Associate Professor.

All your work will take place on the beautiful, green campus in Twente. Want to know more about the UT? Take a look here: [green campus University of Twente](https://www.utwente.nl/en/organisation/careers/career/why-university-of-twente/#green-campus),

About the department and the research

Materials and manufacturing processes for light-weight structural applications is one of the central themes for the MS3 department. Various research groups are involved in this research area, including Computational Design of Structural Materials, Production Technology, Mechanics of Polymeric Materials, Elastomer Technology and Engineering, and Nonlinear Solid Mechanics. We closely work together with industry to solve today's and tomorrow's problems by improving scientific understanding of the underlying physics and by developing 'design for manufacturing' tools.

We are one of the founders of the ThermoPlastic composites Research Center (TPRC) and the Elastomer Competence Centre (ECC), and have access to excellent infrastructure in materials processing, testing and analysis.
