UNU-MERIT/Maastricht Graduate School of Governance is looking for a Secretary to the Board of Examiners.

Job description

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance offers a MSc in Public Policy and Human Development. This one-year programme leads to a double degree in collaboration with United Nations University (UNU).

The position’s main duties include the following:

  1. Preparing, reporting and implementing the decisions and resolutions of the BoE, and keeping the archive up-to-date.
  2. supporting the BoE with their (legal) tasks like appointing responsible examiners, administering the Rules and Regulations, auditing.
  3. Being responsible for the organizational and secretarial aspects of the BoE’s work, for example: organizing meetings, prepare case files, taking minutes.
  4. Supervising and promoting compliance with set procedures, regulations and agreements, and checking decisions and propositions for decisions against rules and regulations.
  5. Contributing to the creation of reports and proposals of the BoE, and proactively proposing updates and improvements in procedures, rules and regulations.
  6. Representing the Board of Examiners in various meetings.
  7. Supporting the Programme with matters related to reporting and accreditation.

Requirements

  • You're a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a multicultural and multi-disciplinary team;
  • You’re methodical, with a good eye for detail, well organized, work with great accuracy;
  • You are independent and you bring objectivity to the proceedings;
  • You deal promptly with correspondence and are able to work under time sensitive deadlines;
  • You are fluent in English and Dutch;
  • You have relevant previous work experience of minimum two years;
  • You know your way around computer programs (e.g, Outlook, Excel, Access, Canvas, Corsa and SAP);
  • A background or degree in Law will be considered an asset.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with a possibility of extension.

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG) prepares professionals and researchers for policy analysis, risk assessment, policy design, policy monitoring, policy evaluation and methods and techniques of policy research. The School is integrated within United Nations University – MERIT (UNU-MERIT).  The School is the centre for the institute’s double degree Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development, which aims to train public policy professionals for the global community. 

UNU-MERIT, including MGSoG, has been closely involved in research for a variety of UN agencies, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank.

Overall the institute functions as a unique research centre and graduate school for around 100 PhD fellows and 140 master students. It is also a UN think tank addressing a broad range of policy questions on science, innovation and democratic governance.
