TILT has a vacancy for an Assistant Professor who can make a vital contribution to both education and research in the fields of the European and national regulation of the energy transition.
TILT is offering a Master Program in Law & Technology and contributes to several other master programs – e.g. Data Science – and bachelor programs – e.g. courses in Data Science, Global Law and Liberal Arts. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching on the regulation of the energy transition in courses in the Tilburg Law School and in the Data Science programs in which TILT is involved. The candidate will also be involved in supervising master thesis students and assist in the design and supervision of PhD projects.
The successful candidate will also initiate and participate in research on the principles of European and national regulation of the energy transition carried out by the team of Prof. Lavrijssen.
The successful applicant will contribute to the research on commissioned projects, to writing tenders and conducting research for various studies. The applicant will also contribute to the signature research plan "regulating socio-technical change” by doing research on the legal challenges of the regulation of the energy transition and the development of regulatory theories, principles and rules that facilitate and accelerate the energy transition”. The candidate will play an important role in facilitating and stimulating inter disciplinary cooperation in the Tilburg Climate and Energy Transition Community aiming to achieve excellent academic research with societal impact and to engage with societal partners that are relevant for the energy transition.
The candidate will work in close collaboration with the rest of the TILT staff in preparing activities and events on the regulation of the energy transition, including initiatives for professional learning. The candidate is also expected to actively participate in the activities of the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC), as there is a vivid cooperation between TILT staff and TILEC staff in the area of energy regulation and energy market design.
The intended ratio between teaching and research is roughly 30% for teaching and 50% for research, with the remaining 20% for administrative duties.

The starting gross salary varies between € 3,821 and € 5,230 per month (full time) based on scale 11 of the Collective Labor Agreement Dutch Universities. Tilburg University actively promotes equal and transparent salary between men and women by strictly applying predetermined parameters based on the candidate’s experience. Employees recruited from abroad may be eligible for the 30% tax facility—this means that 30% of your salary will be paid as a tax-free reimbursement.
Tilburg University offers you an employment agreement for a fixed period of 18 months and 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) with the possibility for tenure.
You are entitled to a holiday allowance amounting to 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross yearly income. If you work 40 hours per week, you receive 41 days of paid recreational leave per year.
