Job description

NWO-Institute AMOLF is looking for a scientific program secretary to help coordinate the European project EBEAM - Electron Beams Enhancing Analytical Microscopy. EBEAM is a project funded by the Horizon 2020 program of the European Union in the FET Proactive Program “Measuring the unmeasurable”. See: www.e-beam.eu.

EBEAM aims to develop entirely new analytical capabilities of electron microscopy (EM) by exploiting the unique interactions between free electrons and optical light fields in combination with novel analytical and measurement correlation schemes. EM is a key technology that is central to the solution of major problems that our society faces, and represents a very high economic and strategic value.

EBEAM is a consortium of six academic institutions and two EM companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and Spain. EBEAM has a targeted set of research goals, aiming at novel scientific EM breakthroughs, demonstration of novel applications of analytical EM, and development of novel prototype EM instruments. EBEAM aims to strengthen the European EM community.

As a scientific program secretary, your tasks are:

  • Organize monthly management team meetings, make minutes.
  • Organizational support for reporting deliverables and communication with the EU.
  • Coordinate yearly financial and scientific reporting.
  • Help organize EBEAM summer school and workshops.
  • Technology transfer, patent filing.
  • Help bring new EM technology on the market, create a user base for new EBEAM technology.
  • Help build European ecosystem of EBEAM researchers.
  • Help stimulate diversity and empowerment in EM research.
  • Outreach: dissemination of results by website, Twitter, YouTube, newsletter, public lectures.
  • Organize international visitors program, women visitor’s program.

Requirements

You have a PhD in physics, materials science or related field , and in addition, you have strong organizational and effective communication skills.

Conditions of employment

The position is intended as a 20 hours/week (0.5 fte) appointment in the service of the Netherlands Foundation of Scientific Research Institutes (NWO-I) for the duration of two years, with the possibility of extension. Salary is in scale 10 of the CAO OI and AMOLF offers excellent secondary employment conditions.

You will be based in the Photonic Materials group led by prof. Albert Polman that is part of the Light Management in new Photovoltaic Materials (LMPV) research program in AMOLF’s Sustainable Energy Materials Department (see: www.erbium.nl; www.lmpv.nl).
