Job description

A Grant Advisor works with researchers to help them identify funding opportunities that match their ambition and then supports the process of preparing a winning proposal.

We are looking for persons who want to develop themselves into a top tier grant advisor. Prior experience with grants is not needed, rather the right drive, skills and personality. If you have excellent English communication skills (both written and verbal), the ability to contextualize complex concepts and the drive and confidence to manage a collaborative process for multiple international stakeholders, you are our ideal candidate.

Surrounded by a team of Grant Advisors you will receive training in the intricacies of the various funding schemes, how to effectively apply a coaching communication style and the sought-after skillset of coordinating collaborative grant writing processes.

You will join the Grants Support team at Erasmus Research Services (ERS) working on major research initiatives and spend 50% of your working hours seconded to the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) Research Office as their dedicated grant advisor.

Together we foster a culture amongst researchers that stimulates funding ambitions, you will build and maintain a network with relevant institutes for ESHPM (s.a. hospitals, governmental bodies, pharmaceutical companies) and act as an expert advisor and source of information for internal and external stakeholders. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Be the right hand to lead researchers preparing major collaborative research proposals;
  • Scout for project ideas within the faculty of ESHPM;
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for personal and collaborative research grants at NWO and other national research funders as well as at the European level (Horizon Europe);
  • Support ESHPM researchers as they apply for research grants, and coach them throughout the application process;
  • Act as first point of contact for ESHPM researchers who want to apply for a grant and organize internal alignment with relevant processes such as financial and project control;
  • Assist in devising acquisition strategies with the ESHPM department heads and the Research Office; create overviews of grant activity;
  • Organize, in collaboration with your colleagues at the ERS grant support office, information sessions, trainings and workshops about research grant opportunities;
  • Proactively engage with external contacts like partner institutes, societal stakeholders and relevant agencies to anticipate new developments and help in building consortia.

Requirements

Required experience, skills and competencies:

  • The ambition and willingness to work hard towards positive societal impact;
  • An academic level of thinking and working. A doctorate in the health sciences, or one of our related disciplines (s.a. economics, econometrics, organisational/political sciences, (health) law) will be viewed positively but is not a requirement;
  • The capacity to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude; excellent organization skills;
  • Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under peak performance;
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English (CEFR level C1). Dutch language skills will be viewed positively.

You will become a member of Erasmus Research Services, a new and rapidly growing department of currently 35 people. Every person in your team is seconded for 50% of their time to one of the faculties and you will become the dedicated advisor for the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM). You will report to the Head of Grants of Erasmus Research Services and the Head of Education & Research Policy of ESHPM.

An internationally oriented and varied work environment within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). We offer a contract initially for one year (1 fte, full-time appointment is 38 hours) which may become permanent if your performance is satisfactory. As Junior Grant Advisor your remuneration will grow with how quickly you learn and develop. Your start salary will be in line with salary scale 10 from CAO NU and thus range between € 2.846,- and € 4.490,- gross per month. At the start of your contract, you will agree on a number of development goals with your managers which when met will lead to a guaranteed promotion to Scale 11 from CAO NU (€ 3.821.- to € 5230.-).

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 vacation days per year based on a full-time appointment. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is leading in the Netherlands and Europe with its educational and research activities, focused on policy and management topics in healthcare.
