Available from 1st September you will strengthen the research capacity in our research strand on ‘Transnational public interests: constituting public interest beyond and below the state within our Research Agenda ‘Rethinking public interests in international and European law.

What do we require

The successful candidate is expected to have the following profile:

  • a completed PhD in European law or a closely related field/discipline awarded by the deadline for applications;
  • a specific interest in questions related to environmental protection, climate change, and/or sustainable development;
  • a specific interest in the role of private actors in pursuing public interests transnationally;
  • a demonstrated track record of academic publications;
  • enthusiasm about contributing to a stimulating and motivating research community;
  • strong and relevant international network;
  • fluency in English; an excellent command of English, both verbal and written. Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage, a willingness to acquire such knowledge is expected;
  • demonstrable organisational and communicative skills;
  • willing to compete to attract external funding for research projects;
  • be able to network efficiently and use social media effectively;
  • be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Conditions of employment

Our offer

You will be appointed at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Law School, and seconded to the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague.

We offer an employment contract for one year. Extension of the appointment is subject to satisfactory performance after the first year. The employment contract is for 38 hours a week.

Your salary, depending on your relevant experience, education and knowledge on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between €2,846 to €5,230 gross per month (scale 10/11 according to the Collective Labor agreement of the Dutch Universities) on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.
