Job description

Are you fascinated by nanotechnology and its ability to synthesize materials and devices with atomic scale control? Do you want to contribute to the development of future nano(opto)electronics, the extension of Moore's law, More-than-Moore technologies, or the exploration of emerging fields such as quantum technology? If so, we might be looking for you.

We are looking for an experimentalist with a strong background in solid-state physics. We have particular interest in someone who is passionate about obtaining atomic level understanding of the interaction of reactive species with surfaces during atomic scale processing of nanolayers and nanostructures. The following research topics are highly appealing (but not exhaustive): atomic layer deposition and etching, (semi)conductive nanolayers including 2D materials, and in situ and operando surface diagnostics.

You will join the Plasma & Materials Processing (PMP) research group at the Department of Applied Physics of the TU/e. The present research in the PMP group embraces several research lines such as the experimental investigation of the plasma medium, in situ and operando studies of interaction of reactive species with surfaces, and (plasma-based) synthesis at the atomic scale of materials of interest in many fields in science and technology. You will also be embedded in the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI).

The research group and institute comprises an enthusiastic, and diverse group of researchers who share a passion for collaborative efforts and working with students. They are strongly embedded in (inter)national academic and industrial research networks. You will have access to state-of-the-art lab and clean room facilities in aforementioned areas. These include many experimental systems for (plasma-based) atomic-scale processing such as atomic layer deposition and etching reactors, advanced in situ optical and laser spectroscopy, extensive material analysis equipment, etc.

The vacancy is open for an assistant professor, either tenure track or tenured, depending on the experience of the candidate.
  • You will be responsible for setting up and driving your own independent research program, by generating funding, and supervising/coaching students at the bachelor/master/
    PhD level
  • You will be teaching at the Applied Physics bachelor and master level
  • You will contribute to the success of the research group, department, and associated institutes by initiating new internal and external collaborations and proactive participation
