Job description

As a researcher (50% of the time), you conduct excellent research on social science research methods. We expect the candidate to collaborate with (substantive) researchers in our School and others to apply the new methods and provide advice on the design and implementation of research methods in the social sciences.

As a lecturer, you teach general and specialist courses in methodology and statistics to multi-disciplinary groups of (bachelor and Research Master) students of social sciences programs to which our department contributes. Teaching includes coordinating courses, teaching lectures and tutorials, and supervising research internships, bachelor theses, and master theses. The position also involves management related tasks.

Tilburg University

We are looking for a talented researcher with an ambitious research agenda and a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher in quantitative research methods for the social sciences. The successful candidate should specifically demonstrate solid experience in quantitative research methodology and the capacity to develop innovative quantitative approaches (e.g., survey methodology, multi-level models, methods for causal inference, structural equation modeling, computational social science). We also value collaboration with applied researchers.
Candidates have a (nearly) completed PhD and an excellent (early career) track record in publishing research findings in recognized scientific journals on quantitative research methods for the social sciences. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in (co-)teaching a large-scale course and supervising students. We expect the candidate to hold or acquire the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, in Dutch: BKO) and good command of English (C2 level).

Conditions of employment

We offer an employment contract for 18 months during which you should show your competence in research and education. After a positive assessment of your performance, this will be converted into a permanent contract. Depending on the candidates’ experience, the salary for the position ranges between €3.821 and €5.943 gross per month based on scale 11-12 of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) Dutch Universities.
Tilburg University applies equal policies and actively promotes transparent pay for men and women by applying predetermined parameters based on the candidate’s experience.
Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. The university offers very good fringe benefits, such as an options model for terms and conditions of employment and excellent reimbursement of moving expenses.
