Job description

Are you an inspiring lecturer in the field of programming and/or formal methods and techniques? And do you have affinity with the topics of diversity and inclusion? Then pass on your knowledge to the next generation of AI experts in the green, informal and open environment of Radboud University. Help increase diversity in AI by teaching in an inclusive way with attention for the difference in backgrounds of students.

The responsibilities in this lecturing position are threefold. Sixty percent of the position is to be spent on teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in AI, particularly in undergraduate courses in programming, applied mathematics, software engineering, lab skills, formal methods, or similar courses. Our student population is diverse; some students enrol in our programme without any programming experience, while others already have more experience. Your responsibility is to design / redesign and to teach programming and related courses in an inclusive way that acknowledges these differences in background, and to empower our students to become proficient in programming and formal modelling. Twenty percent of the position is reserved as research time, which can be spent, depending on your interests and expertise, on artificial intelligence or cognitive science at the Donders Centre for Cognition, gender and diversity at Radboud Social Cultural Research, or in the didactics of programming education at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences. You will be expected to stay current in your field of expertise and you are invited to continue to work on collaborative projects or join or initiate new research projects. Finally, 20% of the position is reserved for outreach and impact in diversity, equity, and inclusion in AI, for example, using podcasts, vlogs, social media, hackatons, school visits, or other means.

You will be part of the School for AI at Radboud University. We host about 800 students (~40% women) in our Bachelor's, pre-Master's, and Master's programmes in AI. Our Bachelor's programme has a strong cognitive focus, being embedded in the Donders Centre for Cognition, and puts a strong emphasis on ethically responsible and ecologically sustainable AI. Apart from a variety of courses in programming, mathematics, machine learning, robotics and symbolic AI, Bachelor's students also receive training in courses such as Theoretical Modelling for Cognitive Science, AI as a Science, or Human-Computer Interaction. In our Master’s programme, students specialise in topics such as neurotechnology, brain-inspired computing, computational cognitive science, gender and diversity in AI, or societal impact of AI. There is also an interdisciplinary honours programme.
Our staff and student population is international in nature, both from inside and outside the EU; all teaching and internal communication is in English. Despite the recent growth of the programme, we strive to maintain a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and be approachable for our students. The programme management is committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for staff and students alike, to safeguard a healthy work-life balance, and to provide academic and support staff members with opportunities for a meaningful and balanced career. Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from underrepresented and minoritised groups.
