Within the Research Support Office at the School of Business and Economics we are looking for a Data Steward (1.0 FTE).

Job description

You will work within the School of Business Research Support Office to support researchers throughout the full life cycle of their projects, where you will help advise and assist on the promotion of Research Data Management (RDM) best practices, legal compliance, and Open Science/FAIR data requirements.

As part of your function, you will help liaise between researchers, specialist and support staff, as well as other members of the Community for Data-Driven Insights (CDDI), where you will assist with the timely identification and resolution of any RDM related issues that might apply to the research project.   

In addition to your work supporting researchers, you will also help with communications, awareness, and training activities. Here you will assist with developing, coordinating, and delivering workshops, info sessions, and online communications about RDM related topics; such as UM policy and practice, funder requirements, privacy and data protection, and Open Science and FAIR data, requirements.

In addition, you will also help contribute to innovation within the team, namely, with the development of Faculty RDM support services and data governance procedures.

What will you do?

  •  Advising researchers on RDM aspects of research projects and assisting them in the timely identification and resolution of RDM requirements and project deliverables (e.g. RDM best practices and operational tasks; funder requirements; legal compliance, including privacy and data protection and archiving; Open Science and FAIR data requirements etc.).
  • Liaising between researchers and SBE/UM support staff (e.g. legal office) to resolve RDM issues, in line with meeting project deliverables (e.g. the SBE RDM Support Team, RSO, IT support, Legal, UB, and CDDI).
  • Registering and monitoring researchers, research projects, and RDM activities, and assisting proactively scheduling relevant support in line with researchers needs.
  • Operational management and functional administration of a trusted SBE research registry and data repository, DANS DataverseNL.
  • Helping improve knowledge and create awareness about RDM, privacy and data protection, and FAIR data, through planning and delivering info sessions, workshops, and online communications.

Requirements

  • University degree and/or relevant experience in a similar role. PhD is an asset;
  • Relevant knowledge about performing research within a Dutch University is preferred along with a strong understanding of the importance of RDM as a basis for producing high-quality research;
  • Working knowledge of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and of privacy and data protection best practices is required. Experience with data governance is an advantage;
  • Pro-active, result oriented, efficient, able to work under pressure, strong planning skills and a structured approach;
  • Team player, good collaboration skills and organizational sensitivity;
  • Ability to maintain an overview of various responsibilities;
  • Integrity, a diplomatic attitude and a high level of personal effectiveness;
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English is required and in Dutch preferred;
  • Strong communication skills, and be comfortable presenting to research teams and Faculty wide audiences;
  • Experience with communicating, networking, and fostering productive working relationships within a diverse range of stakeholders is strong preferred;
  • Experience in operating and working with software that supports data management is preferred (namely, Dataverse NL);
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL and RESTful web APIs is preferred;
  • Knowledge of and experience in the programming language Python and libraries like NumPy and Pandas is preferred;

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: We offer a 1.0 FTE appointment for the period of one year, with the possibility of a permanent contract afterwards based on a mutual match and good performance.

It is a position in accordance with the UFO-Profile ‘Data Steward, level 4 or level 3. Classification takes place depending on relevant education, training and experience.

Remuneration will be according to scale 9 (Data Steward level 4, gross monthly salary between € 3098,- and € 4257,-) or 10 (Data Steward level 3, gross monthly salary between € 2960,- and € 4670,-) of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

Other secondary conditions include a pension scheme, extensive leave entitlements, commuting allowance, parental and partner leave, UM selection model and more.
