Job description

The Department of Languages, Literature and Communication at Utrecht University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a one-year position as Lecturer ('docent') in Celtic Languages and Culture, starting September 1, 2022 (0.7 FTE). Teaching will be primarily at Bachelor level, and while a specific area of specialisation is not required, the successful candidate will fit with the medieval focus of the section.

The precise teaching requirements will depend on the candidate’s interests and abilities and would be arranged in consultation with the permanent members of staff. In addition, candidates with a PhD may be invited to contribute to a small number of courses within the Insular track of the Research MA programme ‘Ancient, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies’.

Utrecht University has a teaching qualification system for university lecturers. If desired and appropriate, the candidate can take part in a BKO (basis kwalificatie onderwijs – basic teaching qualification) course to obtain teaching certification at university level.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic lecturer who:

  • holds a master’s or doctoral degree in (medieval) Celtic studies or a closely related field;
  • has (some) experience in teaching in higher education;
  • is broadly deployable in the education programme of Celtic Languages and Culture (ability to teach medieval Celtic literature is desirable);
  • is a team player.

Conditions of employment

This is an appointment of 0.7 FTE for the duration of one year. In case of a good performance, extending the employment with 2 years is one of the possibilities The minimum gross salary is €2,959 and the maximum gross salary is €5,230 (scale 10/11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities) per month, at a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
