To realise the impact of research and education faster and better, Utrecht University (UU) has chosen to transition to Open Science. It is one of the five pillars of the UU Strategy 2021-2026 and has a prominent place in the FSBS Strategic Plan 2021-2026. In doing so, we want to fundamentally change the practice of education and research in the coming years. Together with the Utrecht University Medical Centre (UMCU), UU is implementing an Open Science Programme to realise this ambition. This university-wide programme includes themes such as Open Access, FAIR data & software, Recognition & Rewards, Public Engagement and Open Education. Within the faculties, this programme will be further promoted and implemented by the Faculty Open Science Teams (FOST) by order of the relevant Faculty Board (FB).

Position
This is a new position and the intention is, while the outlines are already there, that we search for the exact fulfillment together. Based at the Research Support Office (RSO) you function as the spider in the web in the Open Science Programme of our faculty. You help create a culture change in which Open Science becomes an integral part of research, education, talent development and social impact within the faculty. You are part of the FOST and make the connections between the FB, the FOST and the university’s working groups on the one hand and the researchers, teachers and other colleagues within the faculty on the other hand. You are co-responsible for the content and progress of the (faculty’s) Pen Science Programme and the realisation of the programme objectives, and are able to translate these into practical applications.

Tasks

• promote the Open Science ambitions and policy lines of the UU and FSW in particular;
• monitoring and promoting the progress and implementation of the (faculty’s) Open Science Programme;
• acting as contact person for researchers, lecturers and other colleagues, but also for the Faculty Board in the field of Open Science related issues:
  • monitoring internal and external developments in the field of Open Science;
  • connecting the objectives of the programme with the needs of researchers, lecturers and other colleagues (including the FB);
  • making the knowledge and information from the programme relevant for various target groups;
  • initiating initiatives to further promote Open Science within the faculty and beyond;
  • taking care of the administration tasks within the FOST/of the faculty Open Science programme.

You are familiar with the principles of Open Science, in the broadest sense of the word, and are able to convert your up-to-date knowledge and experience on this subject into concrete and feasible advice for researchers, lecturers and other colleagues. You are a born organiser and process controller and you make contact with others easily. Your oral and written communication skills in Dutch and/or English are excellent and you enjoy working in a team. You are action- and result-oriented, organisation-sensitive and act with integrity.

Therefore we are looking for someone with:

• an academic working and -thinking level; preferably a PhD;
• a hands-on mentality and a proactive attitude;
• demonstrable experience and expertise in the field of project- and programme management;
• the ability to improvise and adapt quickly when the situation requires this;
• demonstrable interest and preferably experience and expertise in the field of Open Science;
• knowledge of the (Dutch) field of Higher Education and Science (VSNU and NFU, Universities of Applied Sciences, KNAW, NWO and ZonMw).

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for the duration of three years. The initial appointment will be for one year, with an extension of two years after positive evaluation of capabilities and compatibility. Depending on training and work experience, the position is graded in scale 11 of the collective agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
