Tilburg University is looking for a dean for the Tilburg School of Economics and Management

Job description

As dean, you exercise the overall leadership of the School and are accountable to the TiU Executive Board. You hold responsibility for the organization of research and educational programs, human resources and financial management of the School. You work in a team existing of a managing director, a vice-dean education and a vice-dean research. As a member of the body of the Executive Board and Deans (OCD), you also contribute to shaping Tilburg University’s policy, strategic plan, and budget.

The dean

  • has an excellent academic track record in research and education in a discipline relevant to the School; s/he is or becomes a professor at Tilburg University;
  • has an international, scientific and administrative network and connects to relevant stakeholders to serve the School and to further develop it;
  • is an experienced leader with excellent social, empathic and intercultural skills who values bottom-up initiatives and whose leadership style features open dialogue, engagement and trust;
  • is able to implement and further develop the School’s strategic plan and to respond alertly and with flexibility to internal and external developments;
  • demonstrates connected leadership, i.e. cares for the School’s staff, faculty, and students;
  • actively promotes the values, we stand for as Tilburg University (curious, connected, caring & courageous);
  • intrinsically advocates the value of inter-, trans- and multi-disciplinary research and values the principles of ‘Open Science’;
  • values highly the core principles of ‘recognition & reward’ (erkennen & waarderen);
  • plays a connecting role in the collaboration with and between the various Schools and the board of the university and is able to give TiSEM a recognizable and respected position;
  • actively seeks to maintain and solidify the School’s position as an eminent European educational and research institution;
  • has excellent communication skills in English and Dutch;
  • ensures connective collaboration through the employee and student participation bodies within the School and University.

Conditions of employment

The position of dean is a full-time position. The position has been assigned a scale 18 of the table of salaries applicable to the Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities. The remuneration includes also a special dean’s bonus. In principle, the dean is appointed for a period of four years, after which her/his professorship can be extended at Tilburg University, with a possibility of renewal for an additional four years.
