As an Assistant Professor, you will join the Environmental Policy Analysis department at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) of VU. The position offers a unique opportunity to be part of an international, vibrant and multidisciplinary institute at the forefront of teaching and research on sustainability.

You are expected to contribute to the department's research and teaching on climate and energy governance, as well as administrative tasks to support the department and the institute. We increasingly premier team-based science and novel collaborations and you are encouraged to collaborate with researchers and societal partners within and outside the IVM.

You will also be expected to develop a research line in the field of climate and energy governance, demonstrated by inter alia papers published in high-quality academic journals, acquiring research funding from external sources, and liaising with stakeholders outside academia. The position also involves teaching and coordinating courses in the department's teaching portfolio, including Environment and Resource Master programme, the Political Science master programme, and other related courses and programmes.

Your duties

• developing a (largely externally funded) research programme in climate and energy governance, including supervision of PhD students
• teaching master and bachelor students, including course coordination and thesis supervision, in courses that are part of the department's teaching portfolio
• publishing articles and other forms of writing and presenting research in high quality journals
• contributing to administrative tasks and responsibilities in the department and the institute
• engaging in team work by seeking out collaborations with members of the department as well as other groups at the institute,
• engaging with stakeholder from outside academia through research and/or teaching, striving for making a change towards a sustainable future
• contributing to a pleasant, diverse, and safe work environment at the institute

• a PhD in Political Science or International Relations with an empirical focus on climate and/or energy governance
• research interest and academic track record in climate change and energy governance
• you have experience with and enjoy academic teaching
• you have excellent methodological and communicative skills
• you value teamwork and show academic leadership

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

A challenging position in a socially involved organisation. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3.821 (scale 11) and a maximum €5,230 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE. There is flexibility in the starting date.

We offer a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor, initially for the duration of six years. During the period, performance will be evaluated in terms of teaching, publication record, and acquisition of prestigious personal grants or equivalent project funding. After a successful evaluation permanent employment will be granted.
