You will join approximately 20 colleagues in the Technology Section at DANS, comprising developers, functional controllers, R&D, ICT support and DevOps, all focused on creation of reliable, sustainable, and beneficial research data infrastructure within a wider federated ecosystem. DANS is a future-oriented and innovative institute, which is frequently involved in state-of-the-art projects within the national and EU context.

Function description

DANS is looking for a well experienced and self-motivated individual to take responsibility for our systems engineering functions.

You will join approximately 20 colleagues in the Technology Section at DANS, comprising developers, functional controllers, R&D, ICT support and DevOps, all focused on creation of reliable, sustainable, and beneficial research data infrastructure within a wider federated ecosystem. DANS is a future-oriented and innovative institute, which is frequently involved in state-of-the-art projects within the national and EU context.

You will be taking responsibility for the following tasks within DANS, and report to the CTO:
  • Contribute to development and formulation of the DANS RDMI architecture and providing inputs into the DANS Technology Roadmap at the hand of internal and external consultation.
  • Engaging in regional and international working groups and initiatives, e.g. RDA and the EOSC Task Forces.
  • Leading external project work packages aimed at integrating DANS repository infrastructure into the broader ecosystem or aimed at establishing new services for DANS and the community.
  • Creation, curation, and maintenance of DANS Systems Engineering documentation: requirements, specifications, tests, and standards.
  • Actively follow technology trends and important technology topics in order to contribute to the DANS Business Intelligence function.

Requirements

Function requirements
  • You have a postgraduate qualification in informatics, engineering, library science, or computer science (or a science graduate qualification combined with experience in the development and provision of research data management infrastructure).
  • You are very experienced in research data management, ideally gained in a data repository environment.
  • You have thorough knowledge of metadata and data standards in at least one scientific discipline.
  • You are familiar with formal systems engineering practice, agile development methodologies, manual and automated testing techniques, and have some coding experience.
  • Some experience in uUser and stakeholder engagement, formalisation of requirements and specifications.
  • You have experience with team leadership, workgroup, and committee involvement.
  • You have some research publication and/or advisory or synthesis reporting experience.
  • You are ideally familiar with repository software: Dataverse, DSpace, YODA, Figshare, and similar.
  • Involvement in regional, national and international forums, initiatives and working groups in the field of Research Data Management will be beneficial.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year with possibility for extension.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is € 4.814 and the maximum salary is € 6.181 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale12 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
