Would you like to support academic research and education with societal impact at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)? And do you enjoy communicating about science in an engaging way and organising inspiring events? At DIT we are looking for a creative, hands-on, independent and collaborative communication and event manager who wants to work with us on the transition of EUR to an impact-oriented university.
About the Design Impact Transition (DIT) platform – the space for transformative and transdisciplinary work at EUR
DIT platform is a strategic EUR initiative that empowers new ways of doing research, education and engagement in the support of societal transitions towards just and sustainable futures. DIT develops new institutional conditions and designs to strengthen transdisciplinary and impact-oriented academic work, based on collaboration, engagement and academic entrepreneurship. We work on various activities, including creating a community on transformative academic work, developing educational programmes (minors and a master’s programme) and setting up research projects.
We try to do things differently, including how we design and organise our events and how we communicate about what we do and achieve. For example, we organize an annual DIT DAY where we bring together the EUR community to engage with transformative academic work, and an Eat Your Discipline Lunch series where we challenge professors to think critically about their own disciplinary dogmas. We also published our Narrative for Change, where we describe DIT’s mission, way of working and vision for the future. We aim to organize events that are different from the traditional academic seminars and conferences: no long key-notes and back-to-back sessions, but rather providing a more design-based, interactive, co-creative, artistic and inclusive experience to our participants. Similarly, in our communication we want to speak to a broader public, in a tone of voice that can be playful and edgy but can also convey the serious messages about the urgent societal challenges that we are facing.
To further develop and implement our communication strategy and to organise our events, we are looking for a talented science communicator and event organizer. Next to that, you work together with your colleagues in the core DIT team to continuously develop the DIT platform for the coming years.

Job description

Your main tasks include:

  • Working closely with DIT Academics in devising and implementing communication strategies.
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with EUR Schools, faculty, staff, students and other relevant networks to draw attention to DIT’s offering.
  • Thinking about and designing appealing visuals and other communication expressions.
  • Maintaining DIT's website and social media channels (LinkedIn, Twitter).
  • Thinking about and creating content for various (social media) channels (posts, vlogs, reels).
  • Writing and designing DIT’s newsletter
  • Supporting DIT core team in designing, organising and implementing (hybrid) DIT events, including monthly series, academic and design workshops, annual DIT DAY, etc.
  • Setting up an event from A to Z (including programme design, budget control, communication, implementation and follow-ups)
