Job description

Are you going to help us to give our students the feedback they need, and maintain small scale education? We are looking for a colleague at academic level to contribute and co-supervise various courses offered by the laboratory of Food Microbiology.

You:
  • will be involved in various teaching roles like supervision of lab classes, supervision of group work, lecturing and supervising MSc and BSc thesis students and internships;
  • will also implement knowledge on various aspects of foods and microbiology into new learning materials.
Our mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge of food associated microbes to assure quality and safety of food. In order to control food safety and quality from primary production to consumption, solid knowledge of Food Microbiology is necessary and both positive (fermentation) and negative aspects (spoilage, disease) of micro-organisms are studied. Quality and safety of food is relevant for public health, sustainability and also for enjoying life. This is what we teach and research.

This we do in a dynamic, international group of people with state of the art infrastructure and many national and international collaborations.

Requirements

  • you have an MSc or preferably a PhD in Food Microbiology, Food Technology, or Biotechnology;
  • you have intrinsic motivation for continuous improvement of education;
  • you have didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students;
  • you have the ability to implement knowledge on various aspects of foods (processing, quality, safety) and microbiology into challenging educational modules and thesis topics;
  • you are a team player, accurate and fluent in English;
  • you are a good communicator, organiser and researcher.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2960,-. and € 4670,-. for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). Additionally, a contract for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
