Job description

Erasmus Research Services is establishing a new project management team dedicated to supporting the university’s major research initiatives: largescale, high impact, complex and multi-stakeholder projects. The number of successful initiatives keeps growing and we are looking for up to two new Project Manager(s) Major Research Initiatives to join our team.

Your focus will be on major and complex research initiatives that are funded via European, national or regional funds.

As project manager you will be responsible for all organizational, contractual, and financial/administrative processes and communications. You will be the scientific lead’s right hand on managing consortium relationships, organizational and financial management and delivery of the project.  You will safeguard deadlines, monitor progress and prepare any non-scientific reports required by the project. You will organize project events with or without additional help, depending on scale.

You are successful when all stakeholders are at all times well informed, the project is compliant and when your work enables the scientific staff on the project to focus on doing science.

You will be embedded within Erasmus Research Services and report in line to the head of the Grant Support Office at ERS and subsequently to the scientific lead(s) of the projects you support. In your day to day you will work very closely with your team, the scientific team and the Coordinator Project Management Major Research Initiatives.

Requirements

Required experience, skills and competencies:

  • Working and thinking level equivalent to a university degree or degree from a university of applied sciences;
  • Three years of experience in managing multistakeholder projects;
  • A good set of people skills;
  • Accurate, solution oriented and capable of dealing with tight deadlines;
  • The capability to act as a trusted sparring partner for scientists and other partners in a consortium;
  • The ability to recognize the challenges and opportunities of working in a team that is developing;
  • Excellent communication skills (English necessary; Dutch preferred);
  • Affinity with social sciences and humanities.

It will positively viewed if in addition you bring one or more of the following:

  • Experience with projects funded through the European Commission or NWO;
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in of project management methodologies.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Initially for one year, may be converted to permanent after the first year depending on performance.

An internationally-oriented and varied work within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). We offer a contract initially for one year (1 fte, full-time appointment is 38 hours) which may become permanent if your performance is satisfactory. Your monthly gross remuneration as Project Manager Major Research Initiatives will range between € 3.974.- to € 5.439,- depending of experience, in accordance with Scale 11 of CAO-NU.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 holidays per year based on a full-time appointment. In addition, EUR takes part in the ABP pension scheme, and we also offer partially paid parental leave. Moreover, EUR staff members are allowed to make use of the EUR facilities, including the Erasmus Sports Centre and the University Library.
