Job description

As HR Business Partner you advise and guide our academic management by thinking along with them to develop an integrated approach to business and recruitment issues.

You will help RSM's HR team to improve HR policy by identifying and implementing improvements. Our most important themes right now are leadership development, diversification of career paths for academics, and strategic planning for all employees of RSM. We're paying specific attention to the creation of a healthy and safe working environment and the reduction of work pressure for everyone.

RSM is the only faculty at Erasmus University to have its own HR department and we're keen to see it develop further and become notable for its quality and strategy. The ambition and strategic vision for the Erasmus University as a whole is to become a "great place to work". Developing an ambitious HR strategy to realise this is the role of the HR team at RSM, and we aim to do HR at RSM is - underlying the Erasmus University (EUR) vision and the Rotterdam School of Management strategy -. Our new HR Business Partner will have an important role in this.

You will be part of RSM's HR team comprising eight professionals: an HR director, two HR business partners and five HR officers. You will also work closely with the EUR HR policy and specialist teams. Together we support RSM tactically and strategically with the optimal deployment and development of employees.

You will report to the HR director of RSM, where you will be the HR business partner for the academic departments of the organisation. In the initial period, you will work closely with the current HR business partner, who is retiring next year.

RSM is a dynamic and strongly internationally oriented organisation with about 650 employees, the majority of whom work in academic departments. RSM has a public entity and a private entity where, for example, we offer our MBA programs. You will be working in the public entity.

Your main tasks
  • You translate RSM's strategy (within the framework of the university strategy) into concrete HR plans for your work area by participating in organisation-wide working groups, and by active discussion at management team level;
  • You coach, advise and support executives in the fulfilment of their HR tasks in culture change and organisational development, and in team and leadership development;
  • You will lead and ensure the implementation of HR projects;
  • You will identify changes in the needs of employees and the organisation, and encourage a healthy and safe work environment and promote a good work/life balance where employees can develop and function optimally;
  • You take the initiative to improve HR policies, HR processes, tools and information, and ensure that employees and managers use them.

Requirements

  • The ability to think academically as well as about work practices; preferably you have a master's degree in business administration, strategic HRM or a relevant field;
  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience as an HR business partner or HR manager in organisations with 200-400 employees;
  • Experience in an international environment;
  • Broad HR knowledge on a strategic level, and an awareness of trends and technical developments in HR;
  • Proven experience with policy development and implementation, and in major change projects and organisational development initiatives;
  • Fluency in speaking and writing Dutch and English to C1 level;
  • Accustomed to using data proactively;
  • Previous experience in a managerial role at organisations in or related to government, or with the development and application of HR dashboards, HR analytics and Strategic Workforce Planning is a plus.

  • Proactive approach; you show initiative, anticipate opportunities and threats and act in a forward-looking manner;
  • Result-oriented: you are able to clearly formulate a change assignment, the final goal and the road towards it and to manage it well. You are goal- and result-oriented as well as sociable and enthusiastic
You are an independent, results-oriented, confident and experienced HR business partner who has the Erasmian Values at heart. You are an honest, strategic conversation partner who can work at different levels; with managers on the shop floor and with the management of the business school. You can build relationships of trust, and can give accurate feedback to conversation partners as well as include them in upcoming developments.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months with the intention of a permanent contract upon successful performance.

The position is a full time (0.9-1 FTE), with an initial one-year contract. The intent is to make this a permanent contract after one year upon successful performance.

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The salary depends on your knowledge and experience and with a full-time appointment amounts to between € 4,814 and € 6,181 gross per month (scale 12), in accordance with the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer 8% vacation allowance, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, the EUR is affiliated with ABP for pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid additional birth leave for partners, a discount on our collective health insurance and a personal career budget. As an employee you can also use EUR facilities such as the University Library and you get a discount on a subscription to the Erasmus Sports Center.
