Job description

Key responsibilities

The Postdoctoral researcher will take the lead on many aspects of the project. That includes but is not limited to: planning the research, leading the ethics and data reviews, gathering data, independently conducting the analyses, publishing findings, co-authoring scientific output with the other team members, as well as organizing and participating in conferences.

The department is located in The Hague. The candidate must live in (or relocate to) The Netherlands for the duration of the contract.

Selection criteria

We are looking for:
  • A completed PhD degree (ABDs will also be considered) in public health, epidemiology, econometrics, sociology or another relevant discipline;
  • Strong experience with quantitative methodologies, preferably geospatial analysis and modelling;
  • Excellent research skills demonstrated by, for example, publications in international, peer-reviewed outlets;
  • Experience with ethical review procedures;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
  • Affinity for/Interest in topics of Violence; Conflict; Health;
  • A researcher who is able to balance independent work with collaborative projects and interdisciplinary collaborations;
  • Willingness to relocate to The Netherlands.

Terms and conditions
We offer a part-time (0.8 fte) fixed-term position for 1.5 year with a preferred start date of 1 December 2022 or shortly after. Salary range from € 2.960,- to € 5.439,- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 10 or 11 depending on qualifications and experience) in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA)

The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) is a leading research and education institute, focusing on the most pressing local, national, European and global security issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. It currently hosts more than 100 academic and support staff members and offers the BA in Security Studies, the MSc in Crisis and Security Management (including a forthcoming track on Violence), the Advanced MA in International Relations and Diplomacy, the executive MSc in Cyber Security as well as a variety of innovative teaching offerings in the professional and MOOC fields.
