Job description

Are you passionate about Francophone culture? Do you love teaching and doing research in an academically inspiring and inclusive work environment? And would you like to strengthen Francophone perspectives on contemporary media and visual culture, migration, intercultural communication, and political cultures at our university? Then this might be the position for you!
The French language and culture programme at Radboud University is looking for an Assistant Professor specialised in Francophone culture and language. We are seeking a committed colleague who will both strengthen our course offerings and contribute to transdisciplinary collaborations within the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.

You are an inspiring teacher with a strong international research profile and demonstrate a global perspective on current academic and societal developments. You will teach and coordinate several courses in the Bachelor's degree programme in French language and culture, including language acquisition courses. You will also teach in various Master's degree specialisations at the Faculty of Arts, and the national Masterlanguage programme. You will play a key role in further integrating our language and culture teaching. In addition, you will supervise students, participate in educational support activities such as tutoring, and actively contribute to the development of our curriculum.

You will furthermore contribute to management tasks in our chair group and department, including outreach programmes. Your research will be embedded in the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). You will participate in RICH research groups and contribute to RICH in general. You will conduct disciplinary and transdisciplinary research, publish in relevant academic journals, supervise PhD projects, and build international networks with academics and societal partners. In addition, you will seek external funding and be active in public engagement activities. In so doing, you will help promote an academically challenging, societally engaged and inclusive work environment. In this position 60% of your working hours will be reserved for teaching and 40% for research.

Requirements

  • You hold a PhD degree in a relevant field, with a specialty in Francophone culture and preferably with expertise in migration studies, contemporary media and visual culture, intercultural communication, or modern political cultures.
  • You have a track record of international high-profile scholarly publications.
  • You have experience with outreach activities.
  • You have a formal university teaching qualification (UTQ), or are committed to obtaining one within two years.
  • You have experience in teaching at both Bachelor's and Master's levels, including teaching expertise in language acquisition.
  • You have a clear research agenda in the field of Francophone culture, and are able to attract external research funding to implement it.
  • You are a native or near-native speaker of French.
  • You have good English language skills, and are willing to learn Dutch within two years of your appointment.
  • You have a proactive, can-do mindset, and a track record as a flexible team player.
  • You have a proven ability to work in an inter- and transdisciplinary setting.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years with the prospect of a permanent position after positive evaluation.

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €6,181 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11 or 12).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a temporary employment for 1.5 years with the prospect of a permanent position after positive evaluation.
  • You will be able to use our Dual Career and Family Care Services. Our Dual Career and Family Care Officer can assist you with family-related support, help your partner or spouse prepare for the local labour market, provide customized support in their search for employment and help your family settle in Nijmegen.
  • Working for us means getting extra days off. In case of full-time employment, you can choose between 29 or 41 days of annual leave instead of the legally allotted 20.
