Sanquin Research offers a new position for a Bioinformatician as part of the core bioinformatics team.

Job description

Hundreds of thousands of donors donate blood at Sanquin: the Dutch national blood bank and a highly regarded institute for knowledge and innovation in the field of blood. Besides providing the national bloodsupply we also perform high quality research on all facets of blood, blood donations and transfusions. The research programme of Sanquin is centered around five medical needs, including anemia, vascular diseases and inflammation, bleeding and hemostasis, cancer, immune deficiency and aging. Within Sanquin Research nearly 230 investigators and technicians are involved in fundamental, translational, clinical and applied research.

Our high level of research requires that we adopt and develop the latest in research technology in NGS, proteomics, imaging and flow cytometry. This generates large amounts of new raw scientific data each and every day that require processing and analysis using advanced bioinformatics.

The position
For bioinformaticians we have unique positions available in which you have the ability to work on a wide variety of omics data and research topics. We seek a bioinformatician as part of our core bioinformatics team that employs and develops methods to analyse proteomic, transcriptomic, genomic, flow cytometry and imaging data. Our team works together with wet lab scientists to find novel and integrative solutions for blood related medical needs.

Research group
You will be part of the core bioinformatics team to meet the demands of the ever increasing amount of research data that is being generated by Sanquin and its research partners. As part of a group of enthusiastic bioinformaticians you will collaborate on performing novel research, help build and maintain an bioinformatics infrastructure to analyze and manage our increasing data output and fulfil our big data aspirations to help patients and blood donors.

Your key responsibilities:
·  Collaborate with researchers on research projects, large and small;
·  Support researchers by supplying bioinformatics assistance;
·  Develop and apply analysis pipelines to support fundamental and translational research;
·  Help support and maintain the bioinformatics infrastructure;
·  Report scientific results in reports, presentations, scientific publications, patents and regulatory documents.

Requirements

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with:

  • MSc or PhD degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or biomedical sciences;
  • 2 or more years of experience in bioinformatics;
  • Demonstratable skills in dealing with large datasets and knowledge of quantitative data statistics, bioinformatics, and data reporting/visualization;
  • Preferably experience in analysis of flow cytometry and/or RNAseq data; 
  • Experience with Linux;
  • A team player with good communication skills in English, who can work independently, but also as part of a multinational team.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.
