Job description

Are you a highly motivated interaction designer with a passion for environmental science? Are you experienced in identifying funding opportunities, proposing strategic research initiatives and eager to actively participate in application development? Then this could be the ideal opportunity for you!

For our Applied Spatial Research Team, we are looking for an experienced colleague with a track record in interaction design of applications in environmental research projects, including decision support tools, and interactive tools for climate information. You have affinity for the user-friendliness, workflow and efficiency of applications as well of the look and feel (UX); and you involve users and stakeholders in all steps of the design and development process. You have experience with data- and information visualisation, GIS, scrum, agile methodology and techniques for user centered design and evaluation. You work closely together with back-end and front-end developers and content providers to realise your designs. you oversee the research domain and developments within interaction design, help develop a vision for the team and coach the team members in the required expertise development
  • you tailor propositions to policy, societal and market needs and you actively contribute to the acquisition of new projects;
  • you are involved in projects as an interaction designer, sometimes in the role of project leader, in which you lead multidisciplinary research teams, overseeing the work and maintaining communication with the customer;
  • you are a networker and set up collaborations with colleagues in adjacent research areas within Wageningen Environmental Research, within WUR, with relevant government organisations and with market parties, so that user-friendly, efficient and impactful applications are created;
  • you disseminate the research results in scientific publications, at conferences and in stakeholder and client-oriented formats.
Applied Spatial Research is a very diverse group of researchers: Geodesk, landscape architects, data quality expertise centre, software developers, cartographers and spatial data/ information researchers. But what binds us is spatial data. We often act as a broker between policy, science and technology and always look for smart spatial solutions for a sustainable and economically responsible future at local, national and international level. Requirements

  • a PhD or masters degree in Human Computer Interaction, or other relevant degrees
  • at least three years of experience with applied research, IT projects and/or innovation processes;
  • experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and acquisition of funding for research projects;
  • strong analytical skills;
  • team worker, collaborative personality with visionary leadership
  • excellent oral and written communication skills in English (C1 level) and preferably Dutch, including experience in presenting and publishing research results;
  • non-Dutch candidates should be able and willing to learn Dutch quickly with an intensive course and to at least B2 level in the first year

Conditions of employment

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €4.149,- and €6.229,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 12). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours can be discussed.
