Job description

The Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM, VU) and Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC, UT) are renowned knowledge institutes with strong teaching programs to train professionals to contribute to sustainable future societies. The BSc and MSc programmes at these institutes address complex societal challenges related to sustainable use of land resources, food security, circularity and resilience. The teaching programs on these topics are highly complementary. While VU-IVM has interdisciplinary MScs and BScs focusing on describing linkages between social and natural systems, UT-ITC's MSc interdisciplinary programs focus on the geo-information science and technologies to capture these processes in space and time. This content-based connection but with different foci opens opportunities for joint teaching programs.

In this context we are looking for a Teaching Coordinator to explore opportunities and content towards a solid joint teaching program bridging spatial and sustainability sciences at BSc and MSc level. More specifically, you will explore three options for operationalizing the collaboration between both institutes: 1) the development of a joint minor programme at BSc level; 2) the development of joint courses at MSc level; and 3) the possibility of exchanging topics for master theses.

Your tasks include:
  • Explore options for joint education activities between VU-IVM and UT-ITC, based on discussion with stakeholders in both institutes and elsewhere.
  • Develop a report detailing these options, both at the conceptual level and operationally (i.e. including lists of courses, programs, teachers, topics, procedures, etc.).
  • Organize and participate in two dedicated workshops to explore this collaboration with staff from both institutes.
  • Organize and execute consultation with relevant students at BSc and MSc level at both institutes.
