We are looking for an Assistant Professor, passionate about performing research and teaching in the area of quantitative structure - food property relations for formulation flexibility with sustainable ingredients.The position allows to build up a leading international position.

What are you going to do
Your research area aims to formulate physical quantitative relations between molecular, mesostructural and macrosocopic properties, from sustainable food sources to production and consumption. You will take into account the effects of growth, harvesting, and processing of sustainable sources on food ingredients. A key point your role is collaboration with other staff group members who are specialised on specific phenomena and/or techniques. Another key point for the position will be collaborations with researchers in the other disciplines within and outside of the Food science cluster.

The concepts arising from the research will be used for (co-)development with societal and industrial partners. The results will widen the food formulation window of plant based materials (and of other sustainably sourced edible materials). This ensures more optimal use of local resources, and optimal adaptation to changing circumstances due to for example climate change and according uncertainties in harvest yields. As such it will contribute to food security and quality of life in general.

Requirements

A passionate scientist and teacher, who is a team player and is determined to contribute to realizing improved sustainability in the Agri-Food area.
You also have:
  • a successfully completed academic study in Food Science and Technology (MSc level; recognised in The Netherlands).
  • a PhD in Food Science and Technology
  • experience with complex multi-stakeholder projects;
  • experience in formulating structure food property relations that cover multiple scales
  • excellent communication skills;
  • didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students
  • an action oriented mindset
  • proven ability to conduct a diverse set of research lines at the same time
  • familiarity in chemical characterisation techniques like CD, FTIR, hydrophobicity determination
  • proven track record to successfully collaborate with researchers of disciplines that transcend your own expertise

Conditions of employment

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University's Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract as professor. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.974,- and € 5.439,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 11).
