Tasks

Your research and teaching profile should be relevant to the domain of health psychology with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention. The research can be more fundamental and/or applied, using various (e.g, qualitative or quantitative, including experimental studies) methods, and focus on mechanisms of health behavior (change) as well as the development and testing of interventions. You will contribute to the health and medical psychology teaching program (at the Bachelor and Master level) offered by the unit, as well as courses on health behavior within interdisciplinary programs in which the unit participates, and you will supervise students at different stages of their education. You will be expected to apply for research grants from Dutch and European funding agencies. In addition to contributing to ongoing teaching and research, you will play a role in the ongoing innovation of the curriculum offered by the department.

The focus of our Team at Leiden University is on an interdisciplinary, collaborative and innovative approach to health promotion and disease prevention. With our research we aim to understand and change health behavior in various contexts, using a large variety of strategies, tools and interventions from the health psychologists' toolbox. The applicant should have an interdisciplinary orientation and a diverse professional network. In the health and medical psychology curriculum, you will teach students to become scientist practitioners and you will prepare your students to evaluate and use new methods and techniques in their professional careers.

Requirements

You have an excellent research and teaching background, as well as a PhD on a topic relevant to the profile of this vacancy. You conduct your research according to Open Science principles and you have experience with state of the art methodological and statistical approach and software. You are a team player, but you are also able to supervise and conduct independent empirical research. You are motivated and willing to write external grant proposals and you have broad experience and affinity with teaching at the academic level. Both Dutch and English language proficiency (or the intention to reach it) is required. The candidate will be required to enter a nationally standardized tertiary teaching skills certification trajectory (BKO or BasiskwalificatieOnderwijs).

Terms and conditions

A position for 0.8-1.0 fte at the Health, Medical and Neuropsychology unit at the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University. The salary level depends on previous research and teaching experience and ranges between € 3.974.- to € 6.181.- gross per month on a full-time basis (pay scale 11 or 12 for assistant professor), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), with additional holiday and end-of-year bonuses. Successful candidates will be appointed for one year (probation) with the possibility of tenure thereafter. The position encompasses teaching at various levels and research.
