We are looking for a motivated Postdoc to join our dynamic team, who is ready for an opportunity to perform cutting-edge research and contribute to the fight against cancer.

Job description

The project

The Postdoc will be responsible for the design, production and functional testing of intracellularly expressed antibodies, formulated as mRNA transfection vehicles and targeted at oncogenic signaling pathways involved in immune suppression or at spliceosome constituents. Ultimate aim is to enhance the immunogenicity of cancer and so support immunotherapy approaches.

The project is part of a research consortium, funded by the European Union Research and Innovation Actions: HORIZON-HLTH-2021-TOOL-06-02. The CANCERNA consortium brings together molecular biologists and immunologists from six countries in a concerted effort to exploit mRNA-based approaches and mRNA processing modulation in cancer immunotherapy.

About your role

Your main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • To screen for, identify, and clone genes encoding targeted antibody fragments;
  • To set up and operationalize in-vitro transcription of antibody mRNAs;
  • To set up mRNA-based transfection protocols for intracellular antibody expression in tumor cells;
  • To carry out flowcytometric, transcriptional, and functional profiling of intracellular antibody-modulated tumor; cells and study their effects on immune effector cells;
  • To analyze and write reports and papers on the obtained data.

About you

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoc:

  • With a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences or Biochemistry and with affinity for Immunology;
  • With experience with molecular biology techniques, specifically in-vitro mRNA transcription and transfection;
  • You have a flexible, pro-active team spirit but you can also work independently;
  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

As Potsdoc researcher you will be working at the Amsterdam UMC (location VUmc) in the Immunotherapy Lab of the Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) under supervision of Prof Tanja de Gruijl and Prof Hans van der Vliet.

Research within the CCA Immunotherapy Lab is performed in a stimulating environment and at an international highly competitive level. You will be part of a highly motivated team of (pre-) clinical researchers. The focus of research is on the tumor microenvironment and cancer immunotherapy.
