Job description

ITEM is looking for a communications officer with an affinity for cross-border cooperation and mobility. Do you want to support our researchers and activities in creating impact by using appealing communication tools? Do you have a sense of timing and involving stakeholders in communication?

ITEM contributes from its science and expertise to the development of a well-functioning transnational society. Dissemination of knowledge and results are essential to this. The communications officer proactively anticipates relevant developments in society and activities from ITEM. The communications officer is responsible for the social media (Twitter and LinkedIn) and the ITEM website. The communications officer is creative with content and its various forms, such as photos, videos, infographics, blogs and news reports. Using the communication channels, the communications officer not only ensures effective dissemination, but also maintains, connects and attracts stakeholders in the network. On the ITEM website, the communications officer drafts or edits news items and blogs. At events, the communications officer is actively involved in the preparations, during the event and in the follow-up after an event.

The communications officer also shares responsibility for the ITEM newsletters and is the point of contact for ITEM within the Marketing & Communications Team of the Faculty of Law and Maastricht University. He or she actively switches when necessary, such as for press releases. The communications officer also coordinates with (future) communication interns at ITEM, including their supervision.

Who are we looking for?

ITEM is interested in meeting candidates who meet the following profile:

  • at least a higher vocational education degree in a communication field or affection with communication;
  • strong affection with knowledge dissemination, strategic stakeholder engagement and science communication;
  • interested in cross-border cooperation and mobility and the effects of policy on border regions;
  • enjoys working in collaboration within a small and interdisciplinary research team;
  • enjoys working with different disciplines and topics
  • possesses the ability to communicate on a wide range of topics and write quickly on various subjects
  • contribute to administrative and coordinating tasks;
  • contribute to an open, safe and inclusive working environment;
  • have the following competences: flexibility, broad interest, good writer, presenter and result oriented;
  • an excellent command, both verbal and written, of the Dutch and English languages. In addition, good knowledge of German and/or French is an advantage.

An interesting position at Maastricht University's ITEM Expertise Centre, within a highly diverse and international environment. Given ITEM's strong link and relevance to society, you will play an important role as a connector and advocate. The position is for one year.

The position (0.6 fte) concerns the profile Communications officer 2. The salary is set at a minimum of 2818 EURO and a maximum of 3247 EURO gross per month (based on 1 fte).
