Job description

We are looking for two enthusiastic computer scientists with lots of natural curiosity to join our Eye-Epi research group at Depts. Ophthalmology & Epidemiology of Erasmus MC. We are a team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians who investigate causes and risk profiles of eye diseases, and develop innovative, automated, and technologically advanced solutions for eye health through integration of predictive models and analytical insight. We have one of Europe's largest and most comprehensive datasets on eye diseases which includes multimodal imaging, genetics, lifestyle factors, and blood biomarkers, and have close collaboration with international consortia.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • You will develop a software infrastructure and applications to support scientific projects, including implementation of image processing and machine learning algorithms, user interfaces for collection and visualization of data and scripts for data curation.
  • You will be involved in our mission to create deep learning algorithms for automated detection of eye pathology on multimodal images, and to integrate image features with other determinants for prediction of the disease course.
  • You will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team and will have close collaboration with different types of users, scientists, and clinicians to optimize clinical translation of developed applications.
  • Job responsibilities are flexible depending on the skill sets and interest of the candidate.

Requirements

  • A degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) or equivalent Master or PhD.
  • At least 2 years of experience in programming and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with python, java script, SQL, Linux, data curation.
  • Interest in health care and curiosity for frontier science.
  • Creative data-driven mind with hands-on spirit and pragmatic approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and flexible personality.

Conditions of employment

  • The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 6.337,- (scale 11 or 12), depending on your level of education and relevant experience, based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP, we take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as an in-company physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. There is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
