Job description

Do you want to contribute to our mission 'To decrease the risk of (chronic) disease and improve the health of those with disease through better nutrition'? Our group is highly committed to providing high quality education closely related to our research themes. More information can be found here.

The education program of the Chair group focuses on research methodology (study designs and (big) data-analyses) and specific nutrition-related diseases (e.g. cancer, cardiometabolic diseases and obesity). Our main target group are BSc students and MSc students in Nutrition and Health (MNH). We contribute to the MNH MSc specialization 'Epidemiology and Public Health' and the part-time 4-year online Master' program 'Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health'. These programs meet the requirements for registration as Epidemiologist A of the Netherlands Society for Epidemiology. Every year, our scientific staff and PhD fellows supervise about 100 BSc and MSc students during their theses and internships.

We are now searching for an epidemiologist (PhD) who finds fulfillment in teaching and education innovation in an academic environment. The candidate is responsible for teaching courses and supervising BSc and MSc students. She/he may also adapt and implements our (online) courses developed at WUR in the curriculum of health-care providers.

Requirements

We seek people with a background in epidemiology, preferably nutritional epidemiology. The candidate has experience in the design, conduct, data-analysis and interpretation of prospective cohort and intervention studies. You play an important role in teaching specific topics throughout our courses such as meta-analyses, big data analyses and interpretation, depending on your experience and interests.

  • holds a PhD in (nutritional) epidemiology;
  • speaks Dutch and has excellent English language proficiency (a minimum of CEFR C2 level);
  • has experience with teaching epidemiology and supervising students;
  • has intrinsic motivation for continuous improvement of education;
  • has didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students;
  • has strong communicative skills and is friendly and approachable for students and supportive to fellow lecturers;
  • is flexible, pro-active, positive, creative and a team-player.

Conditions of employment

The position is embedded in the chair group Nutrition and Disease and offers a flexible and open working environment stimulating personal growth. The chair group currently consists of 2 senior academic teachers, 3 assistant professors, 3 postdoc researchers, 2 special chair professors, 2 full-time professors and about 30 PhD fellows.

We initially offer a fixed-term, 1 year contract which upon positive evaluation can be extended. will lead to a permanent employment contract as academic teacher with an Educational Career Path (ECP) which includes teaching, education development and innovation, and research, depending on past experience and personal interests. We offer the possibility to gain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ; in Dutch BKO: Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs ) which is a requirement in the ECP policy.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €2960,- and €5439,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10-11).
