Job description

What will you be working on?
We are looking for two enthusiastic colleagues with expertise in the fields of digital and multimodal communication, social media, human-computer interaction, or conversational interfaces to strengthen the computer-mediated communication learning trajectories in the BA Communication and Information Studies (CIS), the BSc information Science (IS) and the MA/MSc Communication and Information Studies at the University of Groningen.

In our research on digital and computer communication, we combine various methodologies and theories from the broad field of communication studies, including conversation and discourse analysis, multi-modality research, user studies with research on language and communication technology and artificial intelligence. Research foci range from health communication and sustainability, interaction in medical environments, multimodal narratives in texts and discourses to communicating with machines, AI-mediated communication and automated social media analysis. We are specifically interested in the intersection of communication and technology and the various ways in which different communication technologies shape communication and create affordances and pitfalls for mediated communication and computer-human interaction. We are looking for candidates who study this interrelationship from an empirical, communication studies perspective.

You will teach in and will be invited to further develop the computer communication learning trajectory in the MA/MSc CIS. You will also teach in the BA/BSc programs of CIS and IS, which includes supervision of bachelor and master theses. In addition, you will develop new courses in your area of expertise to strengthen the current curriculum.

Your research will be embedded in the Centre for Language and Cognition (CLCG), one of the research centres within the Faculty of Arts of the University Groningen. We expect you to strengthen and complement our research in one or more of the areas mentioned above. We offer you a position with 60% of your time for teaching (including administration) and 40% for research.
