Are you interested in issues of global sustainability research and policy? Do you enjoy bringing people from across the globe through shared projects and networking? We are looking for a Project and Events Coordinator to join our team to work for and support a global network of some of the world's top social science and humanities scholars working on global environmental
change research.

The Earth System Governance Project is looking for a motivated colleague to take on the following responsibilities:
  • taking leadership in programming for an academic conference convening 500 of the field's most prominent scientists, PhD students, and early-career researchers. The conference will take place in The Netherlands;
  • preparing and coordinating stakeholders to participate in online workshops with the aim of growing the network in Latin America, South Asia and Africa;
  • communicating clearly and providing information to the press and various stakeholders about scientific developments in the project;
  • contributing to administrative operations of the organization.

Requirements

The ideal candidate brings the following:
  • 3+ years in experience in academia, science or an environment/climate NGO;
  • knowledge in the field of global environmental politics and governance;
  • experience organizing large events (experience with academic conferences a bonus);
  • experience in science communication;
  • ability to synthesize complex information from academia into clear messaging;
  • a detail-oriented mindset;
  • openness to work on a small team (4 teammates).
The following qualifications are assets:
  • MA/MSc degree in a related field;
  • experience with WordPress, MailChimp, and Google Suite;
  • experience in diversity and inclusivity practice.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €2,960 and €4,670 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.

Our global network includes many of the most prominent scientists in the field, along with numerous PhD students and early-career researchers. The ambition of the project is to engage a meaningful community of scholarship that produces relevant research to tackle challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, democracy, urban sustainability, energy transitions, geopolitics, and more.

The ESG Project builds on a vibrant global community of hundreds of affiliated researchers; a series of annual open science conferences; a global alliance of Earth System Governance Research Centres; a global cluster of taskforces, associated projects and numerous smaller activities; and a network of affiliated publication series. The International Project Office is based at Utrecht University. The office is the focal point for management and administration, as well as for the communication and network development efforts of the Earth System Governance Project.
