To realise this ambition we are implementing an university-wide Open Science Programme, including the following five themes: Open Access, FAIR data & software, Recognition & Rewards, Public Engagement and Open Education. This new position supports one of the five themes of the Open Science Programme: Open Access.

You as a dedicated Open Access Officer within the Faculty of Science advise and supports researchers of our six departments on all aspects related to Open Access publications. Using this information you advise the other domains (Finance & control, IT, Communication) accordingly.

You are going to be based in the Research and Valorisation Policy department as the point of contact for Open Access possibilities at the Faculty of Science. You will aid in creating a culture change to make Open Access become an integral part of research within the faculty. To reach this goal, you will support researchers by making information about publishing in Open Access journals findable, accessible, and transparent and advise on how to proceed.

Next to this you will be:

  • making relevant information available for submitting Open Access and keeping this information updated;
  • creating insight into Open Access possibilities and costs (status of Open Access journals, publication fees, publication deals between UU, faculty, and publishers);
  • advising on the publication plan for funding proposals and potential issues regarding budget and demands of funders;
  • increasing awareness of Article Processing Charges and Open Access deals involving UU, faculties, and publishers;
  • keeping close contact with the University Library and the Faculty Library committee;
  • promoting the Open Access ambitions and policy lines of the UU, and Faculty of Science in particular within our faculty;
