Job description

Are you an enthusiastic teacher and researcher with strong analytical skills and knowledge of trees and forest? And do you have a PhD in forest sciences, forest ecology, tree biology or a related subject focused on temperate environments? Then this could be the ideal position for you!

You will be joining Forest Ecology & Forest Management Group. We explore issues around forests, their values and management and their responses to changing conditions. This work includes studies of tree growth, wood chemistry and wood anatomy. We are an enthusiastic, dynamic and international group within the larger Environmental Science Group.

You are a researcher/lecturer who has interest, skills and experience with forestry and related education. Immediate roles will include contributions to teaching on BSc and MSc level course, with a focus on temperate forests including organising and conducting field practicals, developing and overseeing examinations and supervising BSc and MSc theses and internships.

Requirements

  • PhD in forest sciences, forest ecology, tree biology or related subject focused on temperate environments
  • Forest related research profile with some emphasis on wood biology / tree rings / wood chemistry & anatomy. research and teaching on tree growth and forest use
  • Enthusiasm and ability to teach in English (at least C1 level).
  • Team player, experienced in working in collaborative groups.
  • Excellent organizational and communicational skills.
  • You like teaching and contact with students from different backgrounds.
  • You are willing to learn new teaching methods and skills.
  • Knowledge of wood structure and chemistry, growth-sensors, forest economics, and silviculture is advantageous

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2.960,- to a maximum of € 5.439, - for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10-11). Additionally, a contract for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
