The
Nijmegen School of Management enables students, institutions and companies, societal actors and governments to play their part in a transformation towards sustainable societies.
In doing so, the faculty is committed to Radboud University’s mission of contributing to a healthy, free world with equal opportunities for all. In the context of our 'Responsible governance for sustainable societies' mission, we address scientific and societal challenges from a good governance perspective. Our work focuses on the topics Beyond Economy, Climate, Inclusivity, Safety, and Democracy. By building, questioning and extending the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), we acknowledge their interrelatedness and focus on a number of grand challenges within society. We contribute to innovation and sustainable growth on topics such as inequality, gender, meaningful work and poverty. Furthermore, we address environmental and climate challenges, seeking to contribute towards resolving them.
At the Nijmegen School of Management, academic research and teaching are carried out in challenging educational programmes. These programmes are offered in the areas of Business Administration; Economics and Business Economics; Geography, Planning and Environment; Political Science; and Public Administration. Academic research takes place within the Institute for Management Research (IMR). Research is carried out within the above-mentioned domains and in interdisciplinary research groups: the Hotspots. The Nijmegen School of Management has 400 staff and approximately 5,000 students.
The department of Public Administration seeks to enable students, governments and public and semi-public organisations to understand, contribute to and reflect on processes of public governance aimed at addressing complex societal challenges. In analysing responsible public governance, the department is strongly committed to the position of vulnerable societal groups and the involvement of diffuse public interests. To develop an in-depth understanding of public governance, the department offers a combination of sectoral expertise with in-depth knowledge of public administration, public management and public policy. Research and teaching are characterised by a strong commitment to advanced research methods, both quantitative and qualitative, and extensive attention to public administration ethics.
The department offers one Bachelor’s and one Master’s programme, currently with specialisations in local governance, policy research, security and EU governance. In addition, it plays a role in professional and PhD training, through the Radboud Management Academy and Netherlands Institute of Governance. The department is recognized both nationally and internationally for its expertise in the field of governance and management of private and public organisations, as evidenced by a strong publication output and a steady flow of external research funding. The department coordinates three 'hotspots' of interdisciplinary research within IMR. The department's workplace environment is characterised by good working relations, distributed leadership and a sound balance between staff autonomy and collaborative learning.
