Job description

As part of a growing department supporting ambitious people, the Strategic Management section seeks two new colleagues who are passionate about doing research at the highest level and deliver high-quality education on strategic management. We are looking for candidates who strengthen the section's research in topics such as corporate strategy, behavioral strategy, international strategy, business ecosystems, mergers & acquisitions, strategic innovation, and stakeholder strategy/CSR.Although we are eclectic in terms of research methodology, demonstrated expertise in either quantitative and/or qualitative methods is deemed critial.

The new hire will play a key role in strengthening our Strategic Management section. Regarding research the candidates are expected to collaborate with existing staff members. Candidates for the position should also be enthusiastic about creating a motivating learning environment especially for students in the Master specialization Strategy & Organization or International Management. Candidates also have an interest to participate in executive education, specifically in MBA programmes and inhouse company education.

The position is embedded in a cooperative international work environment that embraces multi-disciplinary research, is strongly committed to research quality and productivity, proactively pursues educational innovation, delivers high-quality executive education, and stimulates teamwork.

Your duties
  • Initiate and perform high-quality research in the field of strategic management, culminating in top tier publications and grant acquisitions;
  • Teach and design courses at the bachelor level (e.g., Bedrijfskunde or International Business Administration), master level (e.g., MSc Business Administration), and postgraduate level (e.g., full-time/part-time PhD programmes; executive education); supervise bachelor and master theses students;
  • Be committed to obtaining a university teaching qualification.

Requirements

Candidates are required to have a PhD in Business Administration/Management, or a related field in the social sciences (completed or with a fixed date for the defense) and should be fluent in English. Prior publication experience in top journals in the field of strategic management is a strong asset. Candidates without a completed PhD but who already have a proven research record are also encouraged to apply. So are current assistant professors with a few years of experience. They might complete the tenure track early.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11) and a maximum €5,439 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile (Universitair Docent 2) is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for 1 FTE.

The initial employment contract as assistant professor will be for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of obtaining a permanent position (tenure). The position involves research (50%) and teaching (50%). At the end of the second year, a performance evaluation will take place. The Tenure Track Committee will review your file, including the evaluation and advice on the continuation of your tenure track. In the fifth year, the Tenure Track Committee will review your file in order to decide upon the tenured assignment based on the assessment criteria of the Tenure Track system SBE.
