Are you a team player who likes to connect with other scientists? Do you have experience with the interpretation and prediction of chemical and/or biochemical data? We are looking for a group leader in Chemical Data Science (open rank). Your research will be part of the Institute for Molecules and Materials, which is one of the research institutes in the Faculty of Science at Radboud University.
We are looking for a group leader in Chemical Data Science (open rank). Your research will be part of the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM), which is one of the research institutes of the Faculty of Science at Radboud University. You will be leading an independent research group to build a competitive research programme in chemical data science, making use of chemical and/or biochemical data. Examples of research lines in chemical data science include the analysis of complex chemical data, kinetic modelling of chemical or biochemical reactions leading to a further understanding of these reactions, and molecular simulations of complex dynamic molecular systems. Additionally, developing new data science techniques for real time monitoring and analysis of chemical processes e.g. with mass spectrometry, ion spectroscopy, or NMR, are relevant areas of research. One important task is the acquisition of external research funding, possibly in collaboration with external academic and/or industrial partners. Teaching and supervision are other important aspects of your work, and you will be involved in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Chemistry, Molecular Life Sciences and Science in the educational institute for Molecular Sciences. You will also expected to take on administrative and organizational tasks.
This position is open to aspiring group leaders in all career stages. You will be appointed as a professor at the level corresponding to your experience.
Fixed-term contract: It concerns a permanent contract.
The Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) is a research institute in chemistry and physics that fosters interdisciplinarity by crossing traditional boundaries. Our mission is to create, discover and understand processes and phenomena in atomic and molecular environments. We focus on fundamental research and explore the opportunities for societally relevant applications, thereby educating the next generation of leaders in science and innovation.
IMM distinguishes itself from similar institutes by the intense collaborations that take place between chemists and physicists and/or experimentalists and theoreticians as well as by our excellent infrastructure, which includes state-of-the-art chemistry and biochemistry labs, the Magnetic Resonance Research Center, the Nanolab, the Laserlab, and international user facilities such as the High Field Magnet Laboratory and the Free Electron Laser Laboratory (HFML-FELIX).
This position in Chemical Data Science is part of the Analytical Chemistry & Chemometrics group, which is embedded in IMM's Theme 2: Chemistry of Complex Systems. Analysis and interpretation of data is an integral element of this research theme. Currently, Analytical Chemistry & Chemometrics research focuses on chemical data analysis, ranging from fundamental methodology development (e.g. global optimization methods and multivariate statistics for spectroscopy) to application-oriented research in chemistry and life sciences (e.g. image processing and spectroscopic analysis for industrial and medical applications.) The group has a specific objective in providing quantitative instruments that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.
